Illustration Friday
Sketchbook Project
Week of August 27 - This week's Illustration Friday theme was work, and the first thing I think about when I hear the word, "work", is obviously the very work that I do everyday. Graphic Design. I decided to use the tools in which I use to work, every day. My laptop, cutting mat, ruler, and of coarse, my trusty X-Acto. Medium: Pencil, Prismacolor Marker, Ink
Week of September 4 - This week's Illustration Friday theme was Old, and I immediately knew that I wanted to do something that was old to me, as well as important to me. The illustration is of a ballerina music doll that my mother had given to me when I was about 9-10 years old, and I owned this doll all the way up until last year, when I was 23. However, she unfortunately no longer played music and was falling apart, so I had to bit her a farewell. Medium: Pencil/ Graphite Edited in Photoshop
Week of September 10- For this week's Illustration Friday, I wanted to do something a little bit different from the past two weeks. This week, I went digital, as on a normal basis, that is my strong suit. I decided to do a very simply two color pattern, of apples and guns. I actually even gave this pattern a name, calling it "Rotten to the Core". I wanted to join modern villainy, with a bit of classic villainy in this, but in a simple, easily understood way. From the modern side, we have the guns crossing - because a lot of times in modern movies, books, shows, or even in artwork, guns are a very common weapon to be used by people or characters that are considered villains. From the classic side, I decided to go with an apple- because what it the most oldest story that we know? Snow White. It's like, the Evil Queen was the original female antagonist, and one of the first fantasy villains that we are all introduced to when we are children, so I decided to bring that into this pattern that I created for Illustration Friday. Digital
Week of September 17 - For this week, the prompt was mermaid. Well, when I think of mermaids, I think beautiful and sexy. Not only that, but I think of the classic, 1940's/ 50's pin ups that were made in that time. I've made pin up illustrations before, but never a mermaid one, so I decided to have my first hands at it. I am actually, extremely happy with how she came out, as I didn't use any references or anything to help me. Pencil/ Graphite
Week of October 15- The theme for this week was "stuffed". The first thing that comes to ming for me, is teddy bears, which lead to gummy bears, and some sorts of sweets. This patter, I created in order to evoke that candy feeling that you get from the bright pastel colors, that are often associated with sweets and candy. Digital
Week of October 22- The theme this week was "adventure". I decided to do something a tad bit different from what I've done before and use an actual photograph for the basis of this week. I edited and cropped a photo that was taken from the window of an airplane that I rode recently. This was when I was going on my way to New Orleans for my first national AIGA Conference, which I few as being a very big adventure for me. I then, bitmapped the image, before layering multiple of new of it in different shades of pink, in order to give it a new, imaginative, feeling.
Week of October 29 - The theme this week was "bouquet". Now, this is, obviously, the same project that I finished a few weeks ago for "Think Small," but because I am so proud with how the project turned out, I really wanted to put it out for others to see.
Week of November 13- "Animals" This week, I decided to go digital, but not with a pattern. So this week, I made an adorable polar bear illustration. It's also a celebration of winter too, because polar bears are an animal from the Northern arctic area, and then he's also wearing a scarf to keep warm.
